| New! www.musicbymarta.com site | Thu Aug 6, 2009 | As you all now know Marta has a new website www.musicbymarta.com This will be the last news update on this site as we focus on promoting Marta's official universal site.
| | | | About Marta | Wed Nov 26, 2008 | Marta was born in Lublin Poland during the period of Soviet communist
dominance in the early 80’s. Her mother was a singer in a rock band and
her father an engineer straight out of the Polish army immigrated to
Australia where they dreamt of a better life in a country where their
children could have the opportunity for a brilliant and free life.
Growing up in the 90's In the capital of Australia Canberra, in a
moderately poor household lead Marta to rummage through her parents old
vinyl Records when half the world was already listening to cd’s.
As a restless teen, who struggled with her identity as an Australian
immigrant & various religious & cultural conflicts with her
very strict catholic parents, Marta found comfort in folk singer
songwriters who expressed similar themes of loneliness, sorrow &
disenchantment.
Artists such as Joni Mitchell, Johnny cash, Tim Buckley, Leonard Cohen,
Tom waits, & Bob Dylan. Her obsession with narrative songwriters
extended into bands Fleetwood Mack, Travelling Wilberries & The
pretenders who melded pop sensibility into their folksy tales.
By the time Marta had reached her late teens she had been affected by
Australian bands INXS, Crowded house, The Divinyls & Nick Cave
& The bad seeds.
At age of 20 Marta broke away from the family nest and moved to Melbourne Australia to focus her career entirely on the arts.
Whilst studying and trying without success to put a band together in
Australia, she worked part time in the arts arena where she was exposed
to Australian and international works of art embracing paintings,
sculpture & installation works.
Studying performing arts at the prestigious Victorian College of the
Arts lead Marta to meet Hunters & Collectors front man Mark Seymour
and whom she would co-write several songs with and inspire Marta to
continue on the road as a singer & songwriter.
‘I admired all types of Artists; wordsmiths, writers, poets, painters,
sculptors, screenwriters and of course songwriters., any one who had
the courage to say something in a unique way…’
With no permanent band members and a handful of songs she had
co-written with Seymour, Marta recorded her debut EP with Cameron
McKenzie at Eastern Bloc Studio’s using local session musicians.
Marta put several bands together and lapped the Australian Festival
Circuit for 3 years, shared bills with other artists and even ran an
artist showcase called ‘Story Book Sessions’.
‘I decided I wanted to write my own music so I bought my fist guitar
and began taking both guitar & singing lessons until I could play
tolerably and sing at the same time.’ | | | | | On Tour in Toronto | Wed Jun 18, 2008 | | After 2 weeks of fabulous gigs across Toronto and Mississauga i have decided to extend my Canadian tour unti the end of July. The Mississauga waterfront festival was a fantastic opportunity to play on the big stage in front of thousands of music fans. Apart from the rain which sent us of the stage for about 15 minutes we had a ball and would love to return and do it all again in 09. I will be playing across a variety of venues across downtown Toronto in the coming weeks so stay tuned to my touring schedule and buy a personally autographed CD directly from one of my gigs. | | | | Herald Sun EP Review | Sun Jan 13, 2008 | "Singer-songwriter Marta knows her way around a studio and it shows on this album. It has bundles of deep taut bass and explicit highs. Marta ranges from sophisticated country to rollicking blues rock. Her soaring, searing voice will ensure your cd player stays on repeat mode."
